What is Kung Fu?

In the west, the Chinese Martial Arts are usually referred to as Wu-Shu or Kung-Fu.  The words "Kung Fu" literally mean skill, art or technique derived from diligent practice.

The history of Chinese Martial Arts was first recorded in the Chou Dynasty's Book of Rites, dated 1122-225 BC. Early man sought knowledge to defend himself by imitating the predatory movements of animals. These arts were perfected and preserved mainly through families and temples. The most famous of these temples was the Shaolin Monastery.
